So much goes into being human. A moment here to reflect. I am packing for my upcoming move. My brain makes a gigantic list of to-dos. The obedient body starts working on the list. Meanwhile, the physical space becomes an obstacle course of boxes, furniture, old paintings, and new materials.
Add in a ton of mental stimulation: world news, local ice storms, unusual solar eclipse and an upcoming planetary alignment. Add even more, like a doctor’s appointment and the dog needs to go out again.
Pressure! Find, pay, call, order, cook, meditate, feed, wash dog feet, dream, sleep, pack and haul… Stop! Breathe!
Where’s the art? It is my goal to post at least every two weeks.
There is a lot happening. It’s easy to delay taking the time to do the one thing that makes everything else okay. It doesn’t matter if it’s drawing, writing, hiking or whatever. It is self-care. Like the old saying, “Stop and smell the roses.”
Looking at this week’s drawing, I realize it is a self portrait of my brain! My intention when I began drawing was to slow my brain down. I thought I would find some structure and give my brain something to anchor on. Creating angles would serve this purpose. I started with equilateral triangles (equal angles and all sides equal). I brought in isosceles triangles (two equal angles). Lastly I played with scalene triangles (angles of different sizes.)
But then a circle made its way in. Another circle followed, which brought with it a whole face. The drawing’s outcome was determined.
I understand that most people working with geometry prefer to keep the integrity and symmetry of the geometry. Thus creating beautiful mandala shapes. As usual, the outlier, I like finding the quirk and the surprise. (When I was a kid, people called my Suzie Q. The Q must have stood for ‘quirky’.)

Depending on how much day light is added in, neon can look very different.
We really are multi-dimensional, thinking, feeling, doing, creative creatures. It’s fun to be alive with so much at our disposal. To be totally alone one minute and in the next communicate to the world with our fingertips.
I know one should not apologize, but the first thing I packed was the majority of my art materials. I am keeping out a minimum until my move is over. I realize that I packed my bigger better lighting. There’s no way I’m going to unpack it now. I’ll try to do better until I’m in my new place, new studio, new town.
PS. If you got this far. Yes, that is a brain spider on my forehead!
