Often an artist reflects on his/her achievements and failures. There isn’t a set guideline for becoming a successful artist much less a creative one. A lot of trial and error goes into it. If there isn’t a lot of trial and error, one should question one’s commitment. My most recent portrait titled ‘A Life of Bad Decisions’ is a memoir to my many failures. They weren’t necessarily failures financially, but they were if judged by my heart. This painting has been accepted into ‘The Art League’s April 2019 Mixed Media Exhibit at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, VA. The opening reception is Thursday April 11 from 6:30-8:00pm, if you are close to Alexandria Virginia and the Torpedo Factory, I hope you will come.
This painting contains pieces of my past, my work on fabric, design work, lazy susan projects, my choice in hair color and even a wood carved skull I found while painting a mural along a railroad track in Los Angeles. It’s my history and it’s always been my choices.

The first time we walked into an exclusive high end art shop in Los Gatos CA, it was out of curiosity. We looked at various unique and beautiful art sculptures/ paintings, etc. But nothing stood out nor touched our hearts quite like your ethereal work of art called “Reclining Sacerdotisa”. We had never invested in art at that time, we were young. We wanted to buy your art piece because it was so unique, beautiful and ethereal. Unfortunately at that time we waited 2 days too long because someone bought the painting before we could. That piece haunted us for several years until fortunately my wife found you and was able to purchase one of your beautiful mystical “archetypal feminine” works of art called “Genesis Blush II”. Your work of art has adorned the heart of our home for many years. There hung Genesis Blush for all who entered our hone to admire in awe at the mystical beauty of your art work. From then on we became obsessed with your art work because of the reaction people, who entered our home who saw your beautiful pieces, had. Your works inspire an appreciation for beauty and a feeling of mysticism and romance. For us and many who have come to admire your artistic creations, there’s nothing but admiration. Failure does not even enter our minds. We and most assuredly those who have been fortunate enough to acquire works of art from the world renowned artist “Susan Krieg” feel lucky indeed to have been given the opportunity to own your unique artistic masterpieces. Lucky are the homes and businesses that are graced with your works of art.
There is no failure in the art the world renowned Susan Krieg has graced many eyes to admire.

I received a few concerns by people who know me and have purchased my work. Sometimes it’s good and necessary to review one’s history to see if one has learned anything new. Einstein said, “Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.” Napoleon Hill said, “Most great people have attained their greatest success just one step beyond their greatest failure.” (I’m still working on that). Thomas Edison said, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work!” The quotes on ‘failure’ are many.
No concerns necessary. I am blessed. I paint at least 100 works a year and try to sketch something daily. Once in a while a self portrait like this one pops out to give me something to talk to myself about!
